Is that Skincare or a Filter?

In this digital world we are living in, do we even need good skincare?

If you have social media and have ever posted a selfie, you know how fun filters can be but do you know how damaging it can be to your self-esteem?

As a medical aesthetician, I see the damaging effects of what social media has done to not only our youth but to everyone using Instagram & Tik-Tok.

When doing consultations, I usually ask my clients to explain to me what their skin goals look like. I am often times met with photos of themselves with filters or the words, Flawless, Airbrushed, No visible pores. If it wasn’t for our current mask mandates, I’m not sure how I would hide the look on my face every time I hear those words.

This breaks my heart a little more every time because my client is asking the impossible of me. As much as I would love to be a fairy godmother and wave my wand to magically rid everyone of what they deem to be skin imperfections, it is just not reality.

The truth is, even the best Aesthetician on this planet cannot get rid of your pores, or create flawless skin because your skin is meant to have pores. Un-filtered skin has little lumps and bumps and scars. This obsession with having perfect filtered skin is undeniably dangerous to our mental health.

As a medical aesthetician, my goal is to teach my clients how to care for their skin and understand the importance of healthy skin vs perfect skin. I challenge you to post a selfie, with no filter. Let’s normalize, normal skin.

If you are wanting to learn how to take care of your skin but don’t know where to start, book a complimentary consultation with one of our Skin therapists. We will help you figure out a routine that best suits your lifestyle and budget with quality products.
