Teen Facials

Are teen facials a luxury or necessity?

We believe, at Nouveau Laser and Aesthetic Centre, that facials should be considered part of a healthy skin routine much like going to a dentist for oral hygiene.

Taking care of our skin should never be seen simply as a luxury treatment, it is in fact your largest organ. If you are a parent of a teen reading this, do you have a daughter you have noticed caking on thick foundation to hide the breakouts? Or a son scrubbing his face raw in the shower trying to get rid of the blackheads and pimples popping up all over his face?

Please take them seriously if they ever ask to book in for a facial treatment, they are worried and self-conscious about their skin but don’t know what to do about it.

There are so many benefits to booking your teenager in to see a qualified skin professional. This is a prime age to teach them proper skin hygiene. As our children transition into adulthood, puberty triggers chemical fluctuations in their bodies. Androgen hormones begin to overtake and increase sebum or oil production as well as stimulate hair growth. The excess oil and skin cells can form a plug that gets infected with bacteria which then becomes a breakout.

Our teens have the world wide web at their disposal which has made it easy for them to access information at any time. With influencers doing constant paid promotions, along with skincare reviews and routine videos, they can easily fall victim to inaccurate information that can cause more harm than good.

Skincare is not a one size fits all. What works for me will not necessarily be the right routine for you, because our skin will have different needs. This is why we offer complimentary consultations, where we can assess your specific skin concerns and address them with proper ingredients and treatments suited for your specific needs.

Here are some benefits of booking your teen in for a facial.

  • Proper skin hygiene. Teaching teens, the importance of using quality products over trendy $60 masks from Sephora and layering inches of makeup on their skin to help hide blemishes is important, not only for the integrity of their skin but for your wallet!

  • Using professional products that are right for your skin is no more, sometimes even less expensive than products from big box stores like Sephora.

  • Teaching your teens, the importance of not picking or popping their acne breakouts, so that they are not having to repair major acne scarring later in life. Although we can help with that, prevention is ideal. Getting acne prone skin under control can be a journey.

  • Explaining the importance of committing to a routine at home is key, along with regular visits to a certified aesthetician to keep them accountable and to help them along the journey until they can maintain.

  • Self-confidence. It is already hard being a teenager, in this world of social media influencing. The majority of photos they see on their feeds, whether it is Instagram, TikTok, VSCO etc. are photoshopped. There are very few photos/videos on these platforms that portray real skin. We are all guilty of using filters and wanting, flawless, tight, pore less skin. That is not reality, and I think it is important for teens to have a professional explain this to them. It is ok to have pores, texture and blemishes. We are not porcelain dolls.

What happens during a teen facial?

Each facial is customized to an extent to your teens concerns. We begin by cleansing their skin with an appropriate cleanser while getting some history on their current routine and lifestyle.

The next step is exfoliation, either with the Hydrafacial or manual. Which is then followed up with either a steam or Glycolic softening of the skin, to prep it for extractions if needed. Although not very pleasant, the instant gratification of smoother skin, will make your teen feel great and they will want to continue seeing results so will more likely continue with a recommended skincare routine.

The facial is then finished off with a Hydrojelly mask and a neck/shoulder massage.

Their aesthetician will then explain the recommendations they are given, along with why these specific ingredients are important for their skin type.

Don’t you wish you could turn back time and start taking care of your skin as a teenager? How different would your skin currently be?

Book your teen that facial. Help them love the skin they are in.
